Flat Rate Sewer Fee |
|
|
Beginning this current billing cycle, the City
of Wylie has moved to a flat rate sewer fee of $27 per month. Customers
65 years or older with a homestead exemption and disabled customers with a
homestead exemption will pay a discounted fee of $20 per month. Two
dollars per month from each customer will be placed in a repair and
replacement fund to ensure that the water and sewer infrastructure meets the
current and future demands of the citizens. The City is charged a fixed annual rate by the
North Texas Municipal Water District to process the City’s sewage and cover
the capital costs of the system, regardless of the total amount
processed. Under the old billing system, based on a customer’s water
usage, a reduction in water consumption meant a sewer fund shortfall.
For example, during last year’s wet summer, sewer fund revenues fell short by
$700,000. In addition, the flat rate considerably reduces the cost for
the billing and collection of sewer fees. Flat rate billing does not
increase overall sewer revenues to the City (except for the $2 per month set
aside for the sewer system repair and maintenance fund), it simply covers the
fixed costs of processing sewage. Please call 972-442-8141 for more information. |

Severe Weather Awareness—Be
Prepared |
|
|
Outdoor emergency
sirens are not designed to be heard when indoors, sleeping, or in places with
loud, ambient noise. Wylie Fire Rescue encourages all residents to
purchase and use an automatic weather alert radio. Weather
permitting, outdoor sirens are tested the first Wednesday of each month at 1
pm. They will not be tested if the threat of severe weather exists. Recently designated
a StormReady
Community, the City of Wylie is constantly at work to
ensure a safer community. Click
here for more information on general disaster planning. |
